In any human relationship, we have some needs to satisfy, some goals to be reached, which of course, are of several types : short, medium or long-term goals, personal, professional, family goals etc. When the goals are clear, reasonable and known and we try our best to reach them, the relationship evolves satisfactorily otherwise … Listen to that story … It's ten days now Henrietta is used to stop over Mary's home, her new neighbour, for a few minutes, after leaving her daughter Cendra in school. The first days, Mary smiles but her face darkens progressively and her smile becomes tensed. A rather close character, Mary does not wish to be under pressure in this aimless informal relationship which has just started with « I was just passing by and … ».
It is important for us to know and understand the goals to be reached in our relationships with others, otherwise, we take the risk of “swimming against the stream”, of “wandering from the subject” and to spend a lot of energy in vain (i.e. to fall short of the others' expectations).
